Early B-17s in newsreels

Post by varsity07840 »

This may have been brought up before, but I just receive two DVDs from Wade Meyer Studios that have the best early B-17 footage I have ever seen. They're Army Air Forces Newsreels for 1939 and 1942. 1941 was out of stock. The one for 1939 has alot of shots of aircraft up to standard B models and also has in independant color section covering the Philippines in 1941 with focus on the 17th Pursuit Squadron, but also showing B-17D 21/5B of the 14th BS at Clark.

The 1942 disc (I'm only half way through it) has incredible footage of the Swoose in Australia and Port Morseby. There is airborne footage while armed, with interior shots including the waist gunners test firing the guns,
and a shot of a gunner in the bathtub. PRICELESS!!

Sounds like you hit an unexpected and yet-unmined mother lode of material.
