Does anyone have a photo of 38-219 "Mildred?"

Post here with anything to do with warbirds, those fine vintage flying machines.

Does anyone have a photo of 38-219 "Mildred?"

Post by pokryshkin »

This is a call for help.

Does anyone have a copy of that photo that I BELIEVE appeared either in "Flying Fortress" by Edward Jablonski, or else in "Flying Fortress At War" by Roger A. Freeman, showing B-17B 38-219 "Mildred" based in a field up in Oregon, taken in 1942, possibly alongside "Esmeralda," a B-17E?

IF so, is there any chance you could either publish it here or email me or pm me with it? I need it to illustrate the aircraft's history.

Please advise.

Thanks VERY much!

Sincerely,

Dennis L. "Dan" Katz

PS - can anyone advise WHICH book it appeared in? Thank you!!

Do you know if this photo was taken in Oregon? You mentioned that 38-219 was based in Oregon for a while.

Gentlemen:

First, Thank you all!!!!

Second, I seem to have goffed!

It's 38-218!!!

Third, I seem to recall the aircraft being at either Milford Oregon, or Ephrata, Washington. Let me look up Freeman's magnum opus for a sec. Milford, Oregon, it IS.

Thank you all yet again!!

With grateful humility,
