Ardmore based 17 Crew

Post by Dan Johnson »

Kind of liked this image recently acquired. Dated January 2, 1944 and stamped Ardmore, Oklahoma. Sadly no names. I'd love to trace the crew. They always look so ready to roll in the state side images. So tired once they've been shot at a few times.

42-31962. Per Osborne, the typical trainer story but the dates are off:
Dave Osborne wrote:42-31962 Del Denver 9/1/44; Kingman 19/1/44; Albuquerque 30/3/44; 222 BU Ardmore 22/1/45; 332 BU Ardmore 16/6/45; RFC Walnut Ridge 11/12/45.

Currently on eBay, another bright-eyed young crew:

The date, 601st BS notation and the 398 on the hangar roof (398th Bomb Group) should mean this is Ephrata AAB in Washington. I only have one other shot of an Ephrata B-17 and it had a two-digit tail code as well, but above the serial.

Nice photos, the Ardmore shot especially appeals to me as I've walked most all of the property there as well as flying in-and-out a few times. Those trainers were used hard at Ardmore, lots of flying days available at that station!

Where does it show the date ??

is there a part of the photo cropped-off.... I have the Ardmore Crew lists from August 1944 thru 1945 and most of these photos have a board at the bottom with the crew number

On the back it is dated Jan. 2nd. I assumed 44 as the gear they are wearing wouldn't fit for 45. I suppose it could be 45. It is stamped Ardmore, Oklahoma
