need assistance on a AAFBU - 42-107131 is reported at Memphis. Usually this indicates 4th Ferry group, but as you follow the card / history, the AAFBU assigned (ie 62 AAFBU) moves to Morrison where it gets redesignated at the 5th ERS.
I do know the USAAF / USAF Emergency Rescue Groups were originally under both the ATC as well as the MATS.
62 AAFBU does not show-up in the war time AAFBU listing (attached), but from the grouping, the numbers were used for the ZOI weather group.
Now the problem IO have is connecting the dots to confirm my supposition that this B-17 was assigned to the 62nd AAFBU as a training ship for the B-17H's assigned to this outfit - and later moved with the group to Morrison (Morrison was also the pioneer Hurricane Hunting ships).
Anybody with the post WWII history of the 5th ERS (even the post information on Morrison does not show this outfit).
