Just a heads up that the January and February 2008 issues of FlyPast Magazine contain a 2-part article on the Movieland of the Air Museum.

Scott,

I just finished reading part one of your excellent article on Mantz, Tallman, and the Movieland of the Air Museum. I started taking flying lessons in 1976 at an FBO just up the street from Movieland and for the life of me, can't figure out why I never visited the museum before it ceased operations. I guess it's the classic case of not appreciating what's in your own backyard, so to speak.

Your article rescues Mantz from the poorly written article about him recently published in Air and Space Smithsonian. My impression was that the writer took glee in referring (ad nauseam) to Mantz as a "stunt pilot" even while he quoted Mantz as disliking that characterization.

I'm looking forward to part two. Great work!

I'm curious as to which flight school. I was a gas jockey and then flight instructor at Shaw Airmotive, the Cessna dealer. Started there about 1974 and worked at Shaw until 1980 or so.
