Surplus Warplane Transfers to Schools 1945-1948
New to the Aero Vintage Books website:
We have compiled a list of RFC and WAA transfers to schools, communities, and non-profits during the period 1945-1948. The list currently consists of about 125 aircraft at this point but hoping to grow it from contributions from readers. I'm not aware of any other similar resource online so am hoping this will be useful. Find the listing here: https://www.aerovintage.com/waa-rfc-listing/
Also, I've added a page that takes a close look at the RFC and WAA process of transfers to educational and other institutions that might answer some questions about how the program worked. That page can be found here: https://www.aerovintage.com/rfc-waa-edu ... transfers/

Went through the Goshen High School yearbooks from 1945 to 1958, and found only one shot of the Wildcat - this photo of the Auto Mechanics class in 1948:
Also don't forget Yale University had B-17D 40-3092.You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Did some digging on the Cumberland, MD B-17 and found another photo - PLUS a clue to the plane's ID:
More stories:
And finally, THE CLUE:
Over to the experts. I checked Osborne, the AAM in Britain, and Baugher, but no connection between Major General Twining and a particular B-17 turned up - paging terveurn?

Hmm. Could it be 44-83345, 44-83547, or 44-83549?

Of the three, 44-83549 and 44-83547 both served in AAF/USAF post 1946. The record card for 44-83345 was missing from the reel I worked from, so no information.
