I posted a .pdf copy of a 1992 article I did for the Journal of the American Aviation Historical Society on Postwar Aircraft Disposal. It was an in depth look at the whole process and might be of interest to those on this site. The information presented remains largely unchanged even 31 years later (I'm getting old...)

I always got a kick out of the line, some of the aircraft coming into Kingman were direct from combat -- what a load to horse hocky....

The Kingman ships all came from South Park AAF where they were originally stored after arriving back from combat. In Jan 45 ships from other storage fields started trickling into Kingman but no ex-combat ships staggered into storage. A lot of the ships when they arrived back from combat were sent to depot level mx before being stored at South Park. At the depot, all loose items were removed and inventoried, all weapons and bombsites removed and all remaining ordeance cleaned-out.

It was only after the ships were parked were they demilled (batteries removed and flight control cables cut) making them unairworthy.
