A new name for "Desert Rat"?

I just heard that a new name
emerged from beneath all the paint
on the Rat's nose skins.

Anyway, here's what appeared after finding a hint of yellow, and deciding to do a little light sanding:

I guess that is Tangorine in cursive......... It will be interesting to see where this leads. I see that there are five B-17s in Foreman's Nose Art Name Directory, all combat airplanes, though spelled Tangerine. Must have been a popular fruit then.

We're waiting for someone to post a picture of a B-17E nose with
"Tangerine" spelled out on it, asking something like "What plane is this?".

Thats so cool,I gave Kelner hell for not working on the nose to start with.He would have found this 25 years ago.The name Tangerine was more than likely after the popular song by the one of the Dorsey brothers(Tommy,I think).Its a great tune btw.So the bird is not named Sheryl(Mikes wife) so I guess we start calling her Tangerine.All those in favor say "I".The "Is" have it so Sheryls' new name is Tangerine.

So that is an "e" and not an "o"....that makes sense.

Awesome research work, y'all! More aviation archaeology pays off. That discovery is another reason I've always begged people to use patience during warbird work and to never throw anything away until it's studied.
