Early Model B-17 Project

Post by jpeters »

Bill,

I can confirm that there is an early model B-17 project under way, but I have been asked to not say anything beyond that, at this point in time.

A little more info....

Seems that the guy associated with the
project, which is still just starting out, wants
a B-17C. Currently, it will be referred to as
"Mary-Ann". I guess he's a fan of the movie
"Air Force".

What's the latest news on this project?

Is it a GO or NO-GO project?

What does the cowling on the number 3 engine in a picture of the B-17C used in the movie "AIR FORCE" have to do with the question that was asked?

The picture was the one I was looking for to
support my assertion that "Mary-Ann" was a B-17B.

As for your question, there is one person working on
the B-17C project from the part/research side, but
until some fixture work is done, there will be nothing
substantial for a while yet.

Its a updated B model from what i can tell. The way the exaust comes out part way through the cowling and how the nacells tuck under the cowling screams B model. From what I understand they updated the Bs to later standards ie. flush waist windows, nose frame, lower gun tub etc.Look at a pic of a real C model and look at the exaust stack.
