B-17 wings (?) seen on Interstate 10 in CA

Post by Chris Brame »

About 2:25 Monday afternoon I was heading east on I-10 between about 20 miles west of Banning when I saw a semi going west. On the trailer was a pair of silver wings with two nacelles each with round firewalls and rounded wingtips. They looked very much like B-17 wings to me - but whose are they, and where are they going? Chino? March Field? Or did the guys with the Greeley fuselage decide to go all the way with it?

Over to you...

I would think that if someone was transporting B-17 wings they would have broken them down into the four main pieces for easier loading.

That said, if they were B-17 wings, more than likely they were going to Aero Trader at Chino. Probably coming from their storage facility in the desert.

17 wings

I was unaware of any 17 stuff left at aero traders place in the desert. Would they be kermits from balls of fire? I think all the parts for urbana are in ohio and have been for sometime.

The point I was trying to make here is that if the wings were just one piece units, no matter how big, chances are they weren't from a B-17.
