"I worked for Frank and Paul back in 1963-1968. Everyone at "TallMantz" were like family, and I was but a teenager. But I alway's felt Paul was like a Grandfather to me and the group, Steve Caruso, Steve Hosmer and Wendy Caruso who we were almost never apart in those day's. I learned to fly from many of the pilot's working for Frank and Paul. But soon after returning from the service, the loss of Paul, Frank and my good good buddy Steve Caruso slowed me down and have flown very little sence. But my memories of all the exciting and sometimes crazy things that we all did back in those years will be with me forever. The stories the four of us teen's could tell about Frank Tallman and Paul Mantz, Frank Pine and all the rest could fill volumes! How lucky we were knowing everyone and experience of life and living on the edge."

"I was a teenager & worked at Tallmantz/Movieland. Wonderful memories and sad memories. I have many casual pictures while spending 3 years after school & summers. 1965-1968. would like to hear from others. Others in my era are Jim Rogers, Steve Hosmer, but my brother Steve Caruso is gone. Frank Tallman flew a tribute pass over his buriel services in '68. Hope to hear from you."

I lived in Hermosa Beach in 1963-64. At the time I was a just-married aeronautical engineer working for North American Aviation on the XB-70. Interested in all things aeronautical I found Tallmantz Aviation at Orange County. At the time my idea of a great weekend (unlike my wife's) was to drag her along and take photos of airplanes etc. Until last week (44 years later) I have not had the capability to scan those slides which I'm doing now as I write. It turns out I have a really excellent collection of very high quality photos (taken with a medium format camera) of the planes parked at Orange County in 1963. Anyone interested in seeing them?
Harry

"I am looking for information on a B-25J used in the movie "Catch-22." I am trying to figure out which airplane was known as "the DENVER DUMPER." I believe it was 44-30077, N2849G but cannot confirm. Any information from anyone who may know...please contact me at Mustang5YQ@AOL.COM"

"I worked at Newport Air Associates at Orange County Airport from '76 to '79. They were located next to, and were part of, the Tallmantz Aviation and Movieland of the Air complex. I worked with the A&P mechanics and did all kinds of duties in exchange for flying time; it was a Summer job for a couple of years. I distinctly remember Frank Pine and Frank Tallman walking around and always being nice. Pine seemed to always have a cigar in his mouth.

I remember the back storage rooms and closets, hidden from public view. Because I worked there I would go in there and touch all those old aircraft parts, movie sets (including the F4U Corsair "cockpit" used in filming the Baa Baa Black Sheep TV series) and crates. It was like being back in time. What a wonderful time and place...and the smell of those old airplanes and their parts! It was a heady, wonderful, old smell. The ghosts of so many flights. Those storage rooms were like a gold mine.

I also remember the day Frank Tallman was killed. As a pilot, I pass that peak many times and think of him."

"In working for Tallmantz as a fuel truck driver/aircraft fueler in 1978-79 I was very familiar with Don Pine. He was a brother of Walt and Frank Pine and a retired California Highway Patrol motor officer. He came to work for the company shortly after I did in the fuel department and was a pleasant man to work with and had a wonderful demeanor.
I have lost track of Boots, Marty and Mickie Marchak through the years and fear they may have passed, but I'll always cherish the memories of working at that famous operation at Orange County Airport."
